The self alignment of the butterfly valve disc
The invention
  • The problem to be solved: butterfly valve disc and spindle rotation owing to precision casted driving ribs.
  • Definition:
The valve disk is secured on to the symmetrically flattened actuator spindle by 4 driving ribs formed inside the bore of the disk. The flattened surface of the spindle forms the locking plane enabling the self-adjustment against the locking stress of the disk
    .
  • Presentation:
The cast iron hosing is elastic coated internally means steel-rubber bond made by vulcanisation process. The housing is made in one peace (monocast).
The rotation of the disc is insured by the 4 ribs located inside in its bore, matching to the machined surface of the spindle, its enabling the disc for radial and axial mouvment.
The load transmission plane is parallel to the locking plane in closed state thus allowing only small angular displacement of the disk relative to the spindle. By this angular displacement, effectively self-alignment, of the disk caused by the different stresses in the elastic coated casing causes stress equalisation, in effect resulting in substantial seal security improvement, and less wear significantly longer lifetime
    .

  • Application: pipelines
  • Advantages:
The valve disk does not require machining and its self-alignment enable its economical production with the highest possible quality. The spindle bore of the housing is a blind hole thus eliminating the need of sealing. On the other hand the elimination of the dowel pin as used in other butterfly valve design also ensures high standard and quality improvement.
  • Stage of development: The product was presented on the INDUSTRIA 99 industrial fair between 11-14 May 1999, Budapest with temporary patent during the fair and the serial production of the DN50-200 type has already started.
  • Documentation available: Yes.

  • Name(s): Károly SIPOS
  • Self introduction:
I had worked for a industrial valve manufacturer factory as a designer, responsible for the development of valves for pipelines.
Since I have been retired I started to use AUTOCAD system, and I work on the developing of valves according to my conception.
