HEART-RATE MONITOR
IFIS # 14:

1. The Invention

  • The problem to be solved: The currently available devices controlling the electrical activity of the heart can be used only in health care facilities because of their size, price and special field of application. In addition, the results of the measurements of the currently available devices usually do not give any information to the person under investigation. Moreover, the currently available portable devices are very expensive ones, and their data can be utilized only periodically. At present time, an unexpensive device of small size, which gives easilily interpretable signals for everybody, is not on the market.

  • Definition: A pocket size battery operated device for monitoring the main electric impulse of the heart.

  • Presentation: The device is functioning with a standard size 9 V battery. The main task of the heart-rate monitor device to detect the biggest electrical impulse (R-wave) generated by the heart and to show the actual heart-rate by means of light and voice. detects heart-rate through three electrodes. The heart-rate monitoring activity the device is based on the duration of the R-R interval, and it shows the actual heart-rate on a special LED alignment, setting by 0.2 secretary. The device is suitable for alarm operation in the case of heart rate different from normal heart-rate domain by setting the heart-rate frequency limits in advance.
  • Application:
    - For the medical health care and service personnel in case of heart rhythm disturbances, heart-rate changes, etc. For detection and analysis.

    - For the patients: any change in the heart-rate can be easily detected by a patient due to the direct observation of the voice or the lights of the heart rate monitor. This observation can be helpfull in further treatment of the patient by the doctors.
    - For the healthy: alpinists, sportsmen /fitness/, hikers, etc. For self control of their heart-rate.
    - During rehabilitation, posttraumatic conditions, during patient transport, etc., especially if a change in the heart-rate is expected.
  • Advantages: The device is of small size, unexpensive, portable, and easy to handle. The change in the heart-rate can be easily detected on the coloured LED-diodes, the beeper -voice- can be switched on and off. If the heart-rate exceeds the upper or the lower heart-rate limits, the heart-rate monitor starts to alarm.
