- The
problem to be solved:
Bred of a persistent alfalfa variety with
high protein content.
|
- Definition:
Excellent leguminous forage
crop, long lifetime productable with low
production costs.
|
- Presentation:
Economic value:
Persistent, with rapid sprouting ability
in spring - recommended also for
irrigated conditions. Its economic using
is minimum one year longer than that of
the other alfalfa varieties. Doesn’t
get thinner, maintain the quality of
fodder for long time. For use as green
forage it is suggested to be sown near
the neighbourhood of livestock farms,
reducing by this means the costs of
establishment and transport too. Seed requirement:
for fodder: 15 - 20 kg /ha
For seed: 8 - 10 kg/ha
Cultivating
on the sloping areas of Northern Hungary
has a decisive role in soil conservation.
Have a good winter hardiness and frost
resistant, giving high yields without
lying. It is characterised by relative
increasing yields in the 3rd and 4th year
compared to the standard. Because of its
rapid initial growing in the spring date
of chemical weed control must be
correctly determined at the end of the
winter. The variety gave a good
biological basic for technologies using
reduced quantities of chemicals.

|
- Advantages:
1 – 2 years longer production period,
green fodder and hay with lower costs,
yearly increasing relative yields
compared to the other varieties.

multiplication and spreading are started.

- Self
introduction:
Béla NAGY is Ph.D., titular professor, agricultural
genetic engineer. He is the breeder of
three alfalfa and one soybean varieties,
co-breeder of the first European alfalfa
cms-hybride. He is a member of several
scientific and agricultural organisations
in Hungary and abroad.
József Ficsór is leading technician.
Since 1984 He has contributed in the
breeding of forage plants as technician.
He contributed in the breeding of the
soybean variety TARNA and the alfalfa
varieties KM – Norbert and KM-Agro. He
takes also part in solving different
problems of scientific research (genetic
map of the alfalfa, relationship between
inbreeding and heterosis, etc.).
Bech Lajosné: Since 1969 She has been
taking part in the breeding as
technician. She contributed in breeding
of legumes, namely in those of the
soybean TARNA and the alfalfa varieties
KM-Norbert and KM-Agro.
