Our Main Patron: Dr. János Latorcai m.p., Chairman of Economy Committee of Hungarian Parliament

Let me extend a welcome to the participants of the 2nd Inventor's Olympiad - GENIUS 2000 International Fair of Inventions.

During history it is proved to be true that humanity could produce the necessary material goods and assure themselves the provisions only through the continuous re-creation of the intellectual goods. The inventors are the ones who can augment our resources.

After the birth of Jesus Christ, during the past 2000 years one of the most important achievements of humanity was the establishment of the worldwide legal protection of intellectual properties. Patents became high value goods. Nevertheless, it resulted in the expensiveness of finding a market for the novelties. This is why we offer a free of charge exhibition area for the inventors during the second Inventor's Olympiad to promote the realisation of inventions this way.

During the past millennium of our Christian State, we, the Hungarians, gave a lot of Saints and Nobel prized scientists to the world in comparison to the population of our nation. There are lots of well known Hungarian inventors and their creations represent a significant achievement in the history of technical development. These creations are for example the coach in the Middle Ages, the dynamo, the transformer and the torsion pendulum of Eötvös in the 19th century. Finally, some of the significant achievements of the 20th century, as the ball point pen, the computer or the Mars robot, were developed on the basis of the creations of Hungarian technical experts.

We, the Hungarians, were always responsive to the novelties. More than a thousand years ago we have built up an effective system to defend our. The Italian Renaissance found acceptance in our country among the first ones, in the court of King Matthias. The first metal bridge over the Danube river were built to provide communication between Buda and Pest, in Europe, the first underground line and the first reinforced concrete building were built here in our country and, the use of electric tramway and the wire telephone were also started here among the firsts. The first radio communication of the humanity with the outer space were made in Budapest, when Mr. Zoltán Bay, an Hungarian inventor, transmitted radar waves towards the moon and received the reflected signals in 1949.

These achievements encourage us to set the knowledge and the creative human being as a pattern to follow.

Ten years ago, Hungary was the first in starting the transformation of the Soviet type political and economical system and, as a result, the Hungarian economy achieved one of the highest development rate in Europe. Our economy is open again and looking for the creations of the inventors. I wish the inventors to achieve success in our show.
